« “I read Proust as one experiences a dream, and very quickly I felt the need to preserve a trace of it, to capture my perception of the characters by making them visible and giving them a tangible place in space, by giving them a seat.
A somewhat Promethean project, perhaps, but isn’t seeking to make a work one’s own, however monumental it may be, the most beautiful way of celebrating it?”
Anthony Guerrée

Summary: “In the summer of 2013, with a little time to spare, designer Anthony Guerrée discovered Proust. He then set out to design and have made a series of chairs inspired by the characters of In Search of Lost Time. This book retraces that journey through a research notebook, while also offering an in-depth reflection on the relationship between literature and design.”

Foreword by Jérôme Bastianelli, President of the Société des Amis de Marcel Proust. Portrait and afterword by Émilie Houssa.

“René Gabriel, Raphaël Raffel, Pierre Guariche, Marcel Gascoin… Through the Filiations project, I wish to pay tribute to these French designers from the mid-20th century who were able to mark their era with pieces with a singular but accessible design.
These designers have paved the way for a concrete approach to so-called “standard” furniture with high standards of quality and style. I chose some legendary furniture models that I wanted to draw because drawing is taking the time to observe, to perceive. Drawing is also the best way to pay homage to my eyes. An assembly detail, a subtle angle, an association of materials… elements that make up the specificity of these pieces of furniture-icons of French decorative arts.”
